Train, engine, platform: A Rajasthan school that is like a railway station

A school in Rajasthan's Alwar -- Government Senior Secondary School, Railway Station -- has the walls of its classrooms painted in shades of blue, just like a railway coach, instead of the usual yellow-white colours.

There are many who board trains to reach their school but there are only a few who are actually studying sitting inside one. True to its name, a school in Rajasthan’s Alwar — Government Senior Secondary School, Railway Station — has the walls of its classrooms painted in shades of blue, just like a railway coach, instead of the usual yellow-white colours.

ANI quoted school principal Purushottam Gupta as saying, “As the school is named after a railway station, it was thought to make it look like a railway station. It was the idea of the junior engineer of the district Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan.”

The principal’s office, meanwhile, has been designed like an engine and the verandah, where students spend free time, has been given the look of a railway platform. The boundary wall apears like a goods train on which inspirational quotes have been jotted down.

The idea behind this ‘classroom-look-like-trains’ was to generate interest among students.

The school was initially situated just 50 metres from the city’s railway station, and hence the name. A few years ago, the school was moved to a housing board colony but continues to carry the name of the railway station.
