Panjab University (PU) has proposed to scrap entrance examinations to get admission in M.Ed courses in various affiliated colleges of the university. The proposal would be tabled in the Senate meeting, scheduled to be held on October 9.
The meeting holds significance as the Senate elections are underway and it is the last Senate meeting of the present members of the Senate. The decision to scrap the entrance examination was taken due to a number of seats of M. Ed lying vacant in various colleges every year. Once the proposal receives nod, the admission will be done on merit basis from the next academic session.

Earlier, the university had applied the same rules on the B. Ed course which was also had vacant seats and later the entrance test for admission was scrapped the admission was done completely on merit basis.
Among other issues, the Senate will also discuss the proposal of imposing a fine of Rs 2 lakh on affiliating colleges if they fail to submit their application for affiliation within the stipulated date. The authorities are also planning to start a Ph.D course in Swami Vivekananda Studies.
