Hi, Good Morning. Welcome to our live blog on JEE Main answer key
The experts, after analysing the difficulty level of the JEE Main paper, predicted that the cut-off of this year will be around 90 for the general category. Navin C Joshi, Academic Head and VP (JEE and NEET) at Gradeup commented that considering the difficulty level of the exam, students who expect to score around 210 can expect a 99 percentile.
Since, the first attempt will be conducted in multi-sessions, NTA scores will be calculated corresponding to the raw marks obtained by a candidate in each session as per the above procedure. The calculated NTA scores for all the sessions will be merged for the declaration of result. The JEE Main result shall comprise the four NTA scores for each of the three subjects (Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry) and the total for the first attempt.
The overall merit or ranking will be based on the percentile scores of the total raw scores. In the case of two or more candidates obtaining equal percentile scores in the test, the merit of such candidates shall be determined in order of preference as follows:
Candidates obtaining higher percentile score in Mathematics in the test.
Candidates obtaining higher Percentile score in Physics in the test.
Candidates obtaining higher percentile score in Chemistry in the test.
Candidates older in age to be preferred.
The candidates can calculate the score on the basis of relative performance which is calculated on the basis of the scale ranging from 100 to 0 for each session of the examination.
Based on a query by a reader of indianexpress.com, whether the question paper for each candidate is different. Well no! Each candidate who is appearing for the exam in the same shift will have the same question paper. Just to avoid any cheating candidates' question papers will be jumbled, implying the positioning of questions and their respective answers will be different for two students in the same shift but each shift will have same question paper. Since the exam will be conducted in two shifts, each day two exam sets will be given and over the period of time, as many as 16 different question papers will be given to students.
As question appears in each set are different, candidates' marks will be normalized to maintain equity when it comes to marks, according to NTA. Students will be scored on percentile.
The candidates who attempt the comparatively tougher examination are likely to get lower marks as compared to those who attempt the easier one. In order to overcome such a situation, “Normalization procedure based on Percentile Score” will be used for ensuring that candidates are neither benefitted nor disadvantaged due to the difficulty level of the examination, states NTA.
Percentile scoring is a mechanism of given relative marks to students. Instead of the marks each candidate has gained, there will be a comparison between the candidates and those who have score maximum will get 100 percentile which can even mean 97/100. Therefore the topper(highest score) of each session will get the same percentile of 100 which is desirable. The marks obtained in between the highest and lowest scores are also converted to appropriate Percentiles.
According to experts, the cut-off can be expected to be as high as 85+ this year. "Last year the cutoff went low. The exam was of moderate-level difficulty this year and students with their concepts cleared found it to be easy. So we are expecting the cut-off to be on the higher end. Around 85+ cut-off can be expected," said Amit Kumar, mentor, career launcher.
After declaration of result, the data is handed over to the Centralised Seat Allocation Board (CSAB)/JoSAA or the concerned State government or institute for seat allocation process and admission procedure. The NTA does not collect the information regarding the total number of seats available in the institutions and reservation criteria followed by the institutions, candidates need to check the same with the respective colleges.
The answer key of the National Testing Agency (NTA) JEE Main examination will be released at 3 pm. The candidates can check the answer key through the website- jeemain.nta.nic.in, and raise objections.
Ramesh Batlish, head FITJEE, said, “As per the students who appeared for the BArch exam, maths was moderately difficult. Most questions asked in this section were from calculus and combination etc. This could be tricky for several students. In drawing tests section, two questions were asked for 59 marks. This section was a bit time-consuming. The overall exam was of a moderate level of difficulty.”
For those who are not happy with their performance, they can appear for the April exam, the registration of which will be released next month. JEE Main is held in two phases and in online format only. The result of the January exam will be announced by the end of month.
This year, the total registrations dipped by a small amount. In 2019, 9.34 lakh candidates registered for the JEE Main while it is 9.41 this time.
As per the latest updates, the answer keys and OMR sheet for the JEE Main will be released by the NTA after 3 pm. The candidates can challenge the answer key by paying online a sum of Rs 1000 as the processing fee for each question challenged. The payment of the processing fee may be made through Debit/Credit Card/ Net Banking.
