Amid the ongoing Chhath Puja celebrations, state governments including Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar and Delhi governments have declared a public holiday on November 7. The festival, honoring the Sun God, will also lead to school closures in these states. Schools in Delhi, Noida and Gurugram are closed today (November 7).
Meanwhile, as the pollution levels in Delhi-NCR rise, parents and students are worried whether the Delhi government headed by Atishi will announce ‘pollution holidays’ for school and college students. Several schools have cancelled morning assemblies owing to deteriorating air condition.
To tackle the pollution levels in the capital and neighbouring regions, the Delhi government introduced a graded action plan (GRAP). Under the plan, when the air quality levels reach 450 and even higher, GRAP 4 will be imposed on the residents of the city, thereby closing schools, and educational institutions along with an odd-even vehicle registration system.
Last year, the government announced holidays for the students of the primary class owing to poor air quality, while for other classes, the government suggested shifting online.
Meanwhile, all schools in Noida and Greater Noida till class 8 were asked to conduct online classes till November 8. The order was issued by Gautam Buddh Nagar’s District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Dharmveer Singh. Also, the order suggested that for classes 9 to 12, the school administration should try to maximise online education.
