Jamia Millia Islamia has raised fees for the 2025-26 academic year, with tuition fees increasing by 16 per cent to 41 per cent across various courses. A comparison of the latest academic prospectus with the previous year’s fees shows a sharp rise in costs.
The development came when JMI reduced the fees for SAARC countries to attract more foreign students and NRI wards. They have also reduced fees for foreign nationals/NRI wards for Diploma courses under the University Polytechnic.
The Department of Persian has witnessed the highest increase at 41.41 per cent, with annual fees rising from Rs 6,700 to Rs 9,475. The Department of Arabic follows closely, experiencing a 37.15 per cent hike, increasing tuition from Rs 7,200 to Rs 9,875 per year. Similarly, foreign language programmes, including BA (Hons) in Turkish and other languages, have also seen a 37.15 per cent increase.
Social sciences programmes of the Jamia Millia Islamia, such as MA and BA (Hons) in Political Science, the four-year BA (Multidisciplinary), and BCom (Hons), now cost Rs 9,875 per year, reflecting a 32.99 per cent increase from the previous Rs 7,425.
Science programmes, including BSc (Multidisciplinary), Geography, Mathematics, and Physics, have undergone a 34.29 per cent hike, with fees increasing from Rs 7,800 to Rs 10,475 per year.
Professional courses have also seen a rise in fees. BTech programmes have increased by 19.04 per cent, from Rs 16,150 to Rs 19,225 annually, while MTech programmes now cost Rs 21,375 per year, marking a 16.48 per cent increase.
Law programmes, such as LLM (Regular) and BA LLB (Hons), have seen a 19 per cent hike, raising annual fees from Rs 15,000 to Rs 17,850. With tuition fees rising across all programmes, students may face increased financial pressure.
In addition to the fee revision, the university has announced 14 new courses and expanded the use of Common University Entrance Test (CUET) scores for admissions. This year, 25 programmes—including nine undergraduate, five postgraduate, eight diploma, and three advanced diploma courses—will admit students based on CUET merit, an increase from 20 programmes last year.
