The Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) and IIT Guwahati are both known for their engineering programmes. In the recent National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) Engineering 2024, IIT Madras was rated as the best Indian institute in the engineering category, while IIT Guwahati was at the seventh rank.

The average salary of IIT Guwahati’s last batch (2022-23) was Rs 41 lakh per annum, while that of IIT Madras was Rs 41.72 lakh per annum.
In IIT Guwahati, the average salary has increased from Rs 28 lakh per annum in 2018-19 to Rs 41 lakh per annum in 2022-23. Similarly, in IIT Madras the average salary has increased from Rs 29.28 lakh in 2018-19 to Rs 41.72 lakh per annum in 2021-22.
In IIT Madras, a total of 25 offers with pay packages of over Rs 1 crore per annum were made by the end of session 1.1. Overall, the highest package offered to IIT Madras’ UG students was Rs 2.14 crore per annum. In the 2022-2023 placement year, the minimum CTC recorded for IIT Madras’ CSE branch was Rs 10.2 lakh per annum, maximum is Rs 1.31 crore, and median CTC is Rs 30.36 lakh per annum.
Similarly, In IIT Guwahati, the average CTC for students of BTech CSE has been increasing every year from 28 to 41 LPA (lakh per annum). Typically, the highest package for students of BTech CSE is above Rs 1.2 crore, and this year’s highest package is Rs 2.4 crore. In the 2022-2023 academic year, the minimum CTC has been reported as Rs 8 lakh, maximum was Rs 2.4 crore, average CTC was 42.10 lakh and median CTC was 34.48 lakh per annum.
The number of registered students of BTech CSE of IIT Guwahati has gone up from 84 to 108 in the previous five years. Similarly, that for IIT Madras has gone up from 108 in 2017-18 to 159 in 2021-22.
For IIT Guwahati, in the 2022-2023 academic year, a total of 108 students registered, out of which 104 students (96.30 per cent) have been placed.
