Phase I of the 2024-25 placement season at IIT Kharagpur started on December 1. Within the first 24 hours, the graduating batch received over 800 job offers, including pre-placement offers (PPOs). The recruitment drive saw strong participation from leading global firms despite a challenging job market, says IIT-K.
As many as nine students received offers exceeding Rs 1 crore, with the highest package reaching Rs 2.14 crore. 13 students secured international roles. Prominent companies including Apple, Google, Microsoft, DE Shaw, Capital One, and Databricks were among the major recruiters.
Roles were predominantly offered in software development, analytics, finance, banking, consulting, and core engineering. Capital One, Microsoft, Flipkart, and Qualcomm were among those making significant offers to students.
Prof. V K Tewari, Director of IIT Kharagpur, highlighted the institution’s resilience and reputation. “Even with a slow placement season, surpassing 800 offers on the first day underscores our commitment to nurturing leaders for national development. This reflects the trust companies place in our graduates and the strength of our academic legacy,” he said.
Interviews were conducted in a hybrid format, with several companies visiting campus in person. Prof. Rajib Maity, Chairperson of the Career Development Centre (CDC), emphasised the importance of targeted outreach and industry collaboration. In a statement issued by the Institute, he said: “Our efforts in fostering ties with companies and understanding evolving market needs have been crucial in maintaining placement excellence.”
This year’s placement process also featured the Academia-Industry Conclave (AIC 2024), aimed at bridging gaps between academia and industry. The initiative fostered knowledge exchange and strengthened IIT Kharagpur’s position as a top destination for engineering talent.
The placement season will continue in the coming weeks, with expectations of further success in upcoming phases.
