CUET UG 2024: Megha Goenka aced the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) in 2022 by scoring 100 percentiles in English, business studies, accountancy, maths and economics. She is doing a BA (Honours) in Economics at Delhi University’s Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC). She is in her second year now.
Goenka did her schooling at Delhi Public School, Guwahati. She scored 98 per cent marks in both CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 exams. Although she scored 100 percentile in English, business studies, accountancy, maths and economics, in the CUET UG general test, she scored 99.8 percentile.
Speaking to indianexpress.com, Goenka shares how she prepared for the CUET. Read edited excerpts here:
How did you prepare for CUET?
I did not take any coaching for CUET and relied on self-preparation. I also referred to the free education content available on YouTube. My board exam preparation really aided in it. I, however, had taken coaching for mathematics and accountancy for my Class 12 CBSE board exams.
Both of my CUET exam slots were on July 16, 2022 and I was intimated about the exam date on July 13, 2022. Before July 12, my routine was pretty chill. I would study for three to four hours a day. During the last three days of the CUET, I studied for around seven to eight hours a day.
Was it difficult for you to prepare for CBSE and CUET simultaneously?
It wasn’t difficult preparing for my board exams and CUET simultaneously, given that I’m from a CBSE-affiliated school. The CUET syllabus was pretty much the same as CBSE.
What books did you refer to for CUET UG?
Here are the books I referred to for the subjects I appeared in:
Maths: NCERT and NCERT exemplar
Accountancy: DK Goel and NCERT
Economics: Sandeep Garg and NCERT
Business Studies: NCERT
English: NCERT
General test: Various resources from different sources
Were you aiming to take admission to SRCC?
I got to know about SRCC when I was in Class 12. I have always wanted to perform to the best of my abilities and reach the best possible outcome that I can. Even before CUET results, I had backup colleges that were also good. Afterward, I got into SRCC, which is, of course, one of the best colleges in India.
In future, I want to pursue further education, and that could be both either a postgraduation degree or a professional course. Finance is interesting and I might enter that sector.
What do you do in your free time?
I do what I feel like doing, whether going for a walk, watching a show, or even just sleeping. However, that being said, I think it is important to engage in productive activities as well as to make judicious use of our time.
What would you recommend to CUET UG 2024 aspirants?
I would recommend all of my juniors to enjoy the process. Life is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. CUET UG is probably going to be only one of the many important exams they have to appear for. In such a case, it becomes important that they study consistently without draining themselves. All I would say is give it your best shot.
