CUET UG 2024: Bhargavi Mahto aced the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) in 2023 by scoring 800/ 800 in the exam. She is doing a BA Political Science (Hons) from Miranda House, University of Delhi. She is in her first year now.
Eighteen-year-old Mahto did her schooling in her hometown Nagpur. In Class 10, Mahto scored 96.4 per cent overall marks and in Class 12, she obtained 95.6 per cent marks. She appeared for three domain subjects in CUET UG 2023 – political science, history and economics and one language paper – English. Speaking to indianexpress.com, Mahto shares how she prepared for the CUET.
I first prepared for my CBSE board exams. As we had a rationalised syllabus, I made sure to focus only on that. After the exams were over, we had a month time to prepare for CUET and I studied the deleted portions.
I focussed on the little yet important facts about a topic. Revising the same source multiple times indeed helped me. I mainly focussed on the NCERT books and did not ignore the boxes available after the end of chapters.
I am a night owl. To keep my brain active, remember theoretical concepts of political science, economics and history, and actively engage with the subject, I used acronyms for every topic to remember and recollect facts easily.
I tried following a fixed routine but could not follow it, nor did it work for me. My study pattern was mostly based on how much I had left to cover from a particular subject and what subjects I was grasping properly and effectively during that time of the day.
I did not encounter any such question but there were some wherein we were asked to arrange the events according to their order of occurrence was tricky.
— Focus on the NCERT books, follow it like a Bible
— Do not stress much about the exam
— Take MCQs
— Appear for sample papers. Do not ignore sample papers
The ranking of Miranda House influenced my decision. After I decided that I would do a graduation in Political Science, Miranda House has been from then became my dream college.
I also put Hindu College and Lady Shree Ram College as my preferences while filling out the CUET UG application form.
I come from Maharashtra and there is a perception there that Delhi is not safe. So I opted for an all-girls college. But now when I have been staying here, my perception towards the city has changed for the better.
I am almost over with my first semester and during these six months, I have found it has widened my perspective of the world. I have become confident and extroverted from being shy and introverted.
Earlier, I did not like talking. I am now more comfortable with sharing ideas with people. I also enjoy my own company.
I will do my masters and PhD after my graduation is over. However, I have not thought of anything concretely. I might also take the UPSC CSE exams after that.
I am part of a few societies in my college. In my free time, I participate in the programmes. I read books and also co-head the Decor team of Suvakta, Miranda House’s MUN Club.
