The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on September 27 ordered schools to ensure that all exam halls have CCTVs installed.

Addressing a notification to the principals, and heads of institutions of all affiliated schools, it mentioned that the board examinations of Classes 10 and 12 will only be conducted in a room where a CCTV facility will be provided. It also mentioned that in case a school has no fixed cameras, they will not be considered part of the examination venue for the students. The policy will be implemented in 2025 examination.

CBSE has claimed that approximately 44 lakh students will appear for Class 10, and 12 examinations this year.

To ensure conduction of exam in a smooth and fair way at such a large scale, the Board has developed a CCTV policy thereby asking educational institutions to install high-resolution cameras where student actions and examination materials are easily visible.

As a part of the policy, the recordings of the examination hall must be stored properly for at least two months from the date of declaration of results of Classes 10 and 12. This is to ensure that the recordings can be retrieved easily in case the Board has to review them. The footage of the cameras can be accessed by authorised personnel only. CBSE has ordered schools to ensure that the cameras have dynamic monitoring of specific areas or students with options of pan, tilt, and zoom. It is also important for schools to remember that the cost will not be incurred by the Board.

Both parents and students will be apprised of the purpose of the decision and their rights during the examination. Schools are advised to provide information through various modes such as orientation sessions, handbooks, and notice boards. They have also been advised to take necessary feedback from students, staff, and examination officials to identify improvements and make necessary adjustments.

In each examination centres, one person for 10 rooms or 240 students will be made responsible to continuously monitoring the fair conduct of the examinations.
