With schools in the capital directed to remain closed until November 5 due to a dip in air quality levels, some institutions in Gurgaon are also planning to follow suit, despite an absence of directions from the education department to this effect.
“We’ve curbed all outdoor activities for students since Diwali, including the outdoor assembly. If pollution levels remain the same, we may also close schools for a few days. We will take a call on Monday,” said Anita Makkar, principal at The HDFC School.
“We’ve put purifying plants in the school and are trying to minimise the students’ exposure from our end, but this problem needs to be tackled. The impact on children’s health is irreversible,” she said.
An official at Ryan International School said, “The school is closed over the weekend. However, we expect orders to remain closed on Monday as well, given the poor air quality.”
At Gurgaon’s Lancers International School, officials said they are awaiting directions from the administration regarding closure, and will comply once orders to do so are received.
