Union Home Minister Amit Shah, who is known for his meticulous planning, left the party leaders from Bihar speechless during a meeting the other day when he asked about the preparedness for the Assembly elections, which could be announced in a few weeks. Known for not mincing words, Shah told them to speed up the process to form the election management committee and chalk out a plan on its activities up to November 20, in three phases — backwards from November 20 to November 1; October 31 to October 1; and September 30 to September 20. The new Bihar Assembly has to be elected before November 22.
Environment Ministry’s Indira Paryavaran Bhawan had a tryst with glamour on Wednesday when actor Jackie Shroff called on Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav. Shroff, who is known for supporting environmental causes, is learnt to have discussed Centre’s ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ initiative with Yadav. Shroff also apprised the minister of his affiliations with environmental causes, including his initiatives for tree plantation, according to those in the know.
Rajya Sabha member Laxmikant Bajpai offered two suggestions during a cancer initiative at IIT Madras. One of the suggestions was for the researchers to develop a cheaper cancer detection test so that people can go for it every year. The other was for a case study of a cancer survivor, a doctor, from his birthplace Meerut. He said the doctor recovered using ‘desi jadi buti’(traditional herbs), something which he suggested should be studied.
