“Namaste from Bharat” — External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar opened his address at the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly with these words. Earlier in the day, he had shared a picture on social media of him sitting for UNGA with a digital placard reading ‘India’. Recently, at the G20 Leaders’ Summit in New Delhi, Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s official plaque had also said Bharat instead of the customary ‘India’. It seems like both India and Bharat will be used interchangeably at various fora.
All eyes are on former President Ramnath Kovind who is heading the high-level committee formed to explore the possibility of simultaneous polls. After the first meeting on September 23, the panel is likely to meet for the second time only after two weeks. It is learnt that Kovind is travelling to the United States on a personal visit and is expected to return only on October 9.
THE BJP with the support of volunteers and like-minded people is working hard on boosting the image of Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls. The volunteers have been collecting anecdotes and stories from those who have worked with or are associated with Modi since his childhood. Most of these “unheard stories” are being compiled and put under ‘Modi Story’ title. The volunteers have also been tracking down old diaries, personal notes, speeches, articles and photos that have not yet been published to put them together as ‘Modi archives’. They are working overtime to present this as an attractive package which would get traction and influence voters.
