Vadodara police Tuesday booked one person for alleged data theft from the multinational Conglomerate L&T.

In a complaint lodged by the Group Manager of the L&T knowledge city in Vadodara, the company has alleged that one Mitesh Vasava, a resident of Dabhoi, allegedly used the id-card and access card of a former employee named Sandeep Patel to gain access into the premises between December 2021 and January 2022.

Using the email id of another employee of the company, Vasava committed data theft of over 162 items including email ids of employees, company photos, flowcharts, engineering drawings and so on.

According to the FIR, the company had discovered Vasava’s impersonation in January 2022 and first approached the police.

However, the company formed an investigation committee to gather details of Vasava’s crime to register the FIR.

The Bapod police station has booked Vasava under Indian Penal Code sections for cheating by personation (419) and criminal trespass (447), in addition to relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.

Police Inspector CP Vaghela of Bapod police station said, “We are yet to ascertain if Vasava was alone in this crime or has aides… We will know how he gained possession of Patel’s id card as well as his motive behind the theft only when we arrest Vasava.”
