State BJP president C R Paatil on Friday appealed to party leaders and workers to spend one hour on every Sunday to clean their surroundings and upload photographs of the same on NaMo and Saral apps. This will help Surat, which is currently the second most cleanest city in India, to reach the first position in the Swachha Bharat Survekshan, he added.
Paatil was speaking at the Nutan Varsh Sneh Milan event at Udhna in Surat.
Addressing the gathering, Paatil said, “I am regularly scolded by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on why Surat bagged the second position and not the first in the cleanest city list. I have told Surat city BJP president Niranjan Janjmera to instruct elected councilors to work on cleanliness of their own wards. Each ward consists of four councilors and areas should be divided equally among them.”
“From next month, between 8 am and 9 am every Sunday, BJP leaders and workers should clean localities, alongwith civic body staffers. The councilors should upload photographs of such work on NaMo and Saral apps. If this work is done regularly, we will definitely bag the first position among cleanest cities,” he added.
Paatil also appealed to BJP leaders to watch Mann Ki Baat programme of Prime Minister Narendra Modi every month at the house of a person in their wards. “There should be a gathering of 15 to 50 people. Take photos of such gatherings and upload them on NaMo and Saral apps. This will help local leaders grow in popularity.”
On elected BJP leaders being appointed as mayors, deputy mayors, standing committee chairpersons, ruling party leaders and chairpersons of committees in municipal corporations as well as district and talukapanchayats, Paatil said the party has come up with a formula on appointing leaders on key posts.
“Leaders who have failed to get votes in their own wards have not been given such key posts… There were some who were using influence, but we remained firm on following the new formula. If a leader is not accepted in his own ward, how come he becomes the leader of the city,” he asked.
Lauding the party’s page committee members, who have the responsibility to ensure that voters reach polling booths during elections, Paatil said: “Prior to the 2022 Assembly elections, I have announced that BJP will win all 182 seats, but we won 156…. The credit of this achievement goes to page committee workers… Big shot leaders of Congress lost seats… some of them, who were initially winning, lost…”
In a dig at BJP MLA from Udhna, Manu Patel, who was present at the event, Paatil said: “Manubhai had earlier lost the municipal election and now he won (state polls) by 70,000 votes. The victory is not of the leader, the credit goes to page committee members. I want to advise Patel to be aggressive with officials and not with party workers. We will not tolerate such insults…” “However, since last one year, I have not come across a single complaint against Patel,” he added.
