A local court in Surat Thursday remanded a businessman to two days in police custody in connection with the death of seven members of a family over allegations of abetment to suicide.
Inderpal Sharma, a hardware trader and business partner of Manish Solanki who is believed to have died by suicide due to financial troubles after killing his wife, three children, and parents, was arrested Wednesday.
On Thursday, the Adajan police produced the 42-year-old before the Chief Judicial Magistrate court seeking five days of police remand.
An Althan resident, Sharma runs Nidhi Plywood shop in Bhatar. The police had recovered a note from Solanki’s house in which he had named Sharma for pressuring to return the money he had borrowed.
Following the recovery of the note, Solanki’s brother-in-law Ghanshyam Parmar had lodged a complaint against Sharma with the Adajan police. The police registered an offence under IPC Section Act 306 (abetment of suicide) against Sharma.
According to the police, the accused disclosed that he had to recover Rs 25 lakh from Solanki, while the latter had mentioned only Rs 20 lakh in the note.
“We have seized Solanki’s bike that Sharma had forcefully kept in his possession. We have also seized computer and bill books, and mobile phones and we are digging out more information,” said Adajan police inspector R B Gojiya.
Solanki, who ran a furniture business, was found hanging at his house on October 28. He also allegedly poisoned his wife Rita (32), children Disha (7), Kavya (5) and Khushal (3), his father Kantilal Solanki (65) and mother Shobhna (60).
