DSP Adil Mushtaq had been in police custody for three days before his arrest. Police said that a Special Investigation Team (SIT), headed by SP South, was constituted in view of the larger ramifications of the case.
He has been booked under sections 7 and 7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, and under IPC sections 167 (public servant framing an incorrect document with intent to cause injury), 193 (deliberately giving false evidence in any court proceeding), 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of offence), 210 (fraudulently obtaining a decree or order against any person for a sum not due), 218 (public servant framing incorrect record or writing with intent to save person from punishment or property from forfeiture), and 221 (intentional omission to apprehend on the part of a public servant bound by law to apprehend an offender).
The case was registered at Nowgam police station in Srinagar.
