After cruel blow of destiny separated them over 30 years ago in the prime of their lives,the wait to be together again seemed to be far from over for Harbans Kaur and her husband Surjeet Singh.
On Thursday morning,Harbans Kaur who braved the scorching sun outside the Attari Integrated Checkpost (ICP) with a garland in her hands to meet Surjeet saw her husband approaching towards her in the customs area of the ICP,only to find officials whisking away Surjeet when both were just a few feet away from each other.
Officials at the Attari ICP had initially announced that Surjeet will come out through a gate meant for entrance to the building. As Harbans as well as mediapersons,rushed towards the gate,the authorities whisked away Surjeet from the exit gate and drove away.
Having been left high and dry,Harbans,Surjeets sister Gurdeep Kaur and other relatives and family friends were seen fuming over not being a given chance to meet Surjeet. Harbans,who had planned to go to Golden Temple with Surjeet,left for Phidde village in Ferozepur district,where she finally met her husband.
Earlier,officials had allowed only a few persons to receive Surjeet at the joint check post. Harbans had waited outside the Attari ICP with her relatives and friends.
