THE PUNE City police booked two people, who allegedly forced a 28-year-old man to remove a sticker of Tipu Sultan—a ruler of Mysore during the late 17th century–from his two-wheeler.
Rashid Ahmed, who runs a saloon, lodged the complaint in this case at the Bharati Vidyapeeth police station.
Based on his complaint, police lodged a non-cognizable offence against Rushikesh Bhanage (27) and P N Gawli (20), both residents of Datta Nagar, on Sunday.
Police said Bhanage is a president of a group named “Shivkarya Pratishthan”. He and Gawli allegedly went to Ahmed’s saloon in Datta Nagar area around 5pm on July 24 and abused him for “putting a sticker of Tipu Sultan” on his two-wheeler.
According to police, the duo asked him to remove the sticker claiming that Tipu Sultan was against Hindus. They allegedly threatened Ahmed, due to which he got afraid and removed the sticker.
Meanwhile, the accused duo recorded a video of the incident on their cell phone and made it viral on social media. Police said Bhanage and Gawli have been booked under sections 504 (intentionally insulting someone), 505/1 (incite fear) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC. A senior police officer said a non-cognizable offence has been registered and preventive action is being taken against the accused per the law.
