The Pune traffic police have issued an advisory for commuters to avoid some arterial roads and key traffic junctions in the city, between 6 am and 3 pm on Tuesday, August 1. Traffic diversions and closures will be in place on these routes when Prime Minister Narendra Modi visits the city and will preside over several functions and inaugurate projects.
In a notification issued, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Vijaykumar Magar, on Sunday, provided a list of roads and traffic junctions that citizens are advised to avoid between 6 am and 3 pm on August 1. The notification said that for the movement of vehicles of VIP and VVIP dignitaries in the city, several traffic diversions and closures will be in place.
It advises the commuter to avoid roads connecting to the following traffic junctions: Pune University Square, Simla Office Square, Sancheti Chowk, SG Barve Chowk, Budhwar Chowk, Sevasadan Chowk, Alka Chowk, Tilak Chowk, Jedhe Chowk, Sadalbaba Chowk, Golf Club Chowk. Citizens have been further advised to further avoid Sangamwadi Chowk, Fergusson College and Vimantal Road. While a notification advises citizens to take alternate routes to avoid these roads and junctions, it does not provide the list of alternate routes.
According to the schedule released by the PMO, the PM will perform puja at Dagdusheth Mandir at around 11 am. At 11.45 am, he will be conferred the Lokmanya Tilak National Award.
At 12:45 pm, he will flag off metro trains and inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of development projects. He will also inaugurate the waste to energy plant built by the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation.
