An engineering student died after he fell down an elevator shaft after the lift got stuck between the third and fourth floor of a hostel in Shivajinagar.
Police have identified the deceased as Ajay Ashok Mirande (19), a native of Savedi in Ahmednagar district.
His father Ashok Mirande (55) lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Shivajinagar police station no Monday.
Police said Ajay was a student of an engineering college in Pune and was residing at a hostel on Ghole Road that is run by a trust. Police have booked a security guard and office bearers of the trust on charges of negligence under sections 304 (a), 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police said around 8.15 pm on June 15, Ajay and three others took the elevator at the hostel. But the elevator stopped between the third and fourth floor due to some technical problems.
Police said two youngsters managed to climb down the elevator shaft, but when Ajay attempted to do so, he fell down the shaft. He received severe injuries and was admitted to a hospital. He died while undergoing treatment.
Police sub inspector Ajit Bade, the investigation officer of this case, said no arrests have been made in this case yet.
Police said the accused persons including the security guard at the spot allegedly failed to take essential precautions and followed a wrong procedure to rescue the youngsters from the elevator.
