Student dies after inhaling pesticide

A 19-year-old student died after he reportedly inhaled pesticide at his Narayan Peth residence about an hour after a pest control exercise in the rooms on Tuesday.

A 19-year-old student died after he reportedly inhaled pesticide at his Narayan Peth residence about an hour after a pest control exercise in the rooms on Tuesday. Vishrambag police have registered a case of accidental death.

Police have identified the deceased as Akash Rajkumar Mhetre,a resident of Ahmednagar district.

Senior inspector Arjun Sakunde said,“We have recorded the statements of his roommates. We were told that the pest control agency finished the work around 11 am on Tuesday and instructed the students to stay out for next seven to eight hours.”

He said one of the roommates got a call from Akash around 6 pm saying he was feeling uneasy. He vomited too. He had entered the room around 1.30 pm to take a nap despite instructions from the agency. The postmortem report confirmed the cause of death was pesticide,added Sakunde

“His parents have not lodged any complaint till now. If someone approaches us with a complaint we will investigate accordingly. As of now,it appears Akash’s fault,” said Dakunde. Police said he had done law from a college in Pune.
