Speeding car runs over, kills toddler at Lohegaon Air Force Station, driver booked

Based on a complaint by the two-year-old boy’s father, the police have booked a woman under charges of negligent driving, officers at the Vimantal police station said.

A two-year-old boy playing near a play school on the premises of the Air Force Station in Pune’s Lohegaon was killed on Thursday afternoon after a speeding car ran over him.

The police have identified the deceased boy as Vidarth Mavi. His father, Vipin Mavi, 34, an Air Force officer who resides at the Air Force Station quarters in Lohegaon, subsequently approached the Vimantal police station, following which a First Information Report (FIR) was lodged.

Based on his complaint, the police have booked a woman, who was driving the car at the time of the incident, under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita section 106, 281, 125(a), 125(b), for negligent driving, officers said.

Assistant police inspector Sandeep Karpe of Vimantal police station said that complainant Vipin’s son had gone to the Saksham Play School, located on the premises of the Air Force Station. Karpe said, after school was over, the boy was playing nearby around 12.30 pm, when a car knocked him down.

The boy was rushed to a hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. After receiving information, a police team reached the spot for investigation.

Govind Jadhav, Senior Police Inspector, Vimantal police station, said, “An offence has been registered against the woman car driver. She is also a resident of the same Air Force Station Quarters. Her husband recently retired from the Air Force.”

Police detained the accused woman on Friday and further investigation was on.
