The murder probe of social activist Nakul Bhoir (40) from Chinchwad, for which his wife Chaitali Bhoir (28) was earlier arrested, has taken a new turn. The Pimpri Chinchwad Police have now arrested a 21-year-old tattoo artist, who was allegedly in a relationship with Chaitali, as the probe revealed the two allegedly strangled Nakul with a dupatta.
The incident occurred at the couple’s flat in Bhakti Sagar Apartment, Manik Colony, Chinchwad, and came to light in the early hours of October 24. Police said earlier that Chaitali, who has also been active in social work, herself informed them that she had murdered her husband. Preliminary police probe had revealed the couple frequently argued over Chaitali’s drinking habits and her repeated borrowing of money.
Probe revealed that Nakul and Chaitali, who married in 2018, were both actively engaged in social work in Pimpri Chinchwad. The couple also ran a garments business, and Chaitali was reportedly planning to contest the upcoming civic elections. According to the police, on the intervening night of October 23 and 24, the couple got into an argument while their two children — a son and a daughter — were asleep. Chaitali allegedly strangled Nakul with a piece of cloth. She then called the police control room and told the police that she had murdered her husband, the police said.
A senior officer from Pimpri Chinchwad police said, “As we conducted further investigation into the murder, we analysed the CCTV camera footage in the area and other technical leads. This brought to light involvement of one Sinddharth Deepak Pawar, 21, who allegedly has an affair with Chaitali. He works as a tattoo artist. It has also come to light that on October 23, Nakul Bhoir got to know about a loan taken by Chaitali in the past, over which the couple argued. Nakul physically assaulted Chaitali, after which Pawar and Chaitali allegedly strangled Nakul to death with a dupatta. Pawar was placed under arrest on Wednesday and was remanded to police custody by a court.”
