The Pune District Entertainment Department has issued a showcause notice to a five star hotel and organiser of Pune Market, Karen Anand, for conducting an event without taking the mandatory permission from the entertainment department and evading entertainment duty. The department has fined Rs 62,000 for evading entertainment duty.
The event was held on July 17 at The Westin with an entry fee of Rs 100, which also saw a DJ performing at the event. Pune district entertainment department officer Sushma Chaudhari said, “The event had charged Rs 100 for entry and they had even organised DJ music and dance. There was no permission taken so the showcause notice was issued,” she said. Meanwhile, Karen Anand, the organiser, said that The Westin was looking into the issue. The Pune entertainment duty officials said that both are passing the buck.
