NCP (SP) national president Sharad Pawar on Saturday criticised the Maharashtra Public Service Commission while asking it to hold exams on time and avoid unnecessary harassment to students appearing for competitive exams.
”MPSC decides the exam dates. It should ensure that proper dates are decided. Students slog for a couple of years…They put in hard work for exams. Just when they are fully prepared to give the exams, MPSC postpones the exams. Students who land in Pune or go to various places for giving the exams then have to suffer. Their expenditure goes up, precious time is wasted and they land into depression. Therefore, MPSC should decide accurate dates and avoid unnecessary harassment to students,” Pawar said while interacting with students preparing for competitive exams at the Bal Gandharva Rang Mandir auditorium on Saturday.
One of the students asked, ”Even a kid knows in April, Lok Sabha elections will be held. Yet the MPSC decided April 28 as the date of exam..Similarly, students face several such problems while preparing for competitive questions…If we are going to be ignored in such a manner, then a Bhagat Singh will arise from amongst us,” he said.
Pawar then asked MPSC to take steps to reduce unnecessary harassment to students through proper planning of exam dates.
Pawar also mentioned that women should get equal opportunity to show their skill and talent in all fields. ”I had once gone to the United States, where an all-women contingent gave me a guard of honour. When I returned, I argued for women officers in defence forces…I told officials that 10 per cent reservation for women should be in defence forces…In our country, women fly fighter planes on the border. Once the Bombay high court bench is set up in Pune, many will get an opportunity, we need to pursue this matter,” he said.
