Thousands of commuters between Mumbai and Pune will be inconvenienced this weekend, as the Central Railway has announced a major traffic and power block between October 11 and 14 for certain works at Karjat station as part of an ongoing yard remodelling project.

Several trains have been cancelled, short-terminated, short-originated or diverted. Among those cancelled are Pragati Express, Deccan Queen, Deccan Express, Sinhagad Express, Indrayani Express, CSMT–Solapur Vande Bharat Express, Nanded-Panvel Express and Intercity Express.

“The passengers were informed about the cancellations by message, most trains will be functional soon, and the Railways has a policy that refunds passengers during situations like these, so all the passengers will be compensated,” Hemant Kumar Behera, Divisional Commercial Manager, and PRO of the Pune division, said.

P D Patil, PRO, Central Railway, said, “The work is going on to ease the traffic congestion at Karjat station. This remodelling work will result in an improved path.”

According to officials, the yard remodelling work involves dismantling the crossings of old points and inserting new ones, along with necessary cutting and connection activities. The project also includes slewing operations for the extension of R&D lines and the addition of a new line connecting the UP Yard to the Karjat-Panvel section and the fourth line between Karjat and Palasdhari.
