Airplane hijack to bomb blasts, Pune police conduct mock drills for terror attacks
The mock drills included a bomb blast response at F C Road in Shivajinagar and at M G Road in Camp, a hostage situation involving senior scientists in Vishrantwadi, and an ‘Exercise Drill’ at Pune International Airport in Lohegaon simulating a terrorist hijack of an aircraft with hostages.

Pune city police on Friday carried out mock drills at different locations to check their preparedness in dealing with terrorist attacks ranging from Airplane hijack to bomb blasts at crowded streets.
A press release issued by deputy commissioner of police (special branch) Sandip Bhajibhakare stated that a mock drill for handling bomb blast situations was conducted at F C Road in Shivajinagar around 2 pm and at M G Road in Pune Camp around 2.30 pm.

Then, at 4 pm, another mock drill was conducted at the Research and Development Establishment (R & DE Engineers) in Vishrantwadi for a scenario where ‘terrorists take senior scientists hostage and put forth their demands while negotiating with the cops and government.’

Further, an ‘Exercise Drill’ was conducted at Pune International Airport in Lohegaon for a scenario where ‘terrorists hijacked an Airplane of Indigo Company, held the passengers hostage and made their demands’. A dummy situation of an airplane hijack was created and a negotiating team was sent to practice dealing with terrorists, police said.

The press release stated that the mock drills were held as a security measure for handling emergency situations in the city. Police have appealed to the citizens to avoid panic and not spread any rumours.
