In a special effort to curb pilferage of kerosene, the food distribution office has decided that ration cards would henceforth have a stamp mentioning whether the person is a domestic cylinder beneficiary. A special stamp has to be taken on the ration card from the gas agency and unless this stamp is present, the beneficiary can be stopped from getting cylinders in the coming months.

“Special steps have been taken to ensure that those who are having gas cylinders do not take kerosene too. There are reports of kerosene not reaching the beneficiaries. To ensure that there is proper distribution of kerosene, ration card holders need to have the stamp which would prevent them from taking kerosene illegally,” said food distribution officer Neelima Dhaigude.

The officer was speaking to mediapersons after a meeting with oil companies and other officials to address the issue. She said that all those with ration cards have to approach their respective gas agencies and get the stamp before August 15. “If the gas beneficiary does not get the stamp within the stipulated time, then he/she can be denied cylinders,” Dhaigude warned.

With repeated complaints of cylinders not being filled properly, the officer has also instructed that all gas agencies should have their staff carrying weighing machines to ensure that the cylinder is weighed and checked during the time of delivery to the consumers.
