SENIOR Congress leader and former Deputy Mayor Prasanna Jagtap on Thursday joined the Bharatiya Janata Party with his supporters. This is being seen as a great loss to the city unit of the Congress ahead of the civic polls that is scheduled to happen early next year.

Jagtap, who had conceded defeat in 2012 at the hands of BJP’s Shrikant Jagtap in his ward, entered BJP at an event headed by Guardian Minister Girish Bapat in presence of BJP city unit head Yogesh Gogawale.

After delimitation of the civic wards, Jagtap’s home ward (Ward No.34) was most affected and it was said that the in its new form it will give impetus to BJP candidate. Jagtap’s entry in the party is being seen in this light. The deflection of a senior leader is expected to hurt Congress and help BJP.
