The Pune city police arrested four people for allegedly thrashing a 28-year-old police constable on duty at the Church chowk in Khadki on the Pune-Mumbai highway on Thursday night.
Constable Gopal Gothwal, attached to the crime branch of the Pune city police, lodged an FIR at the Khadki police station on Friday.
Police have identified the four accused persons as Junaid Shaikh (27), Nafees Shaikh (25), Yunus Shaikh (25) and Arif Shaikh (25), all residents of Bhosari.
Police said the accused persons work at a salon. They were allegedly driving their motorcycles at a high speed in a zigzag manner when constable Gothwal—who was doing his night patrolling duty along with constable Kajale— intercepted them at the Church chowk in Khadki around 8.45pm on Thursday.
When Gothwal questioned the accused for rash driving, they allegedly abused and attacked him. They also allegedly hurled expletives at Kajale.
Police sub inspector Digvijay Chougule, the investigation officer of the case, said the accused were arrested on charges of causing disturbance in government duty and causing hurt to a public servant.
Police have booked the accused persons under Sections 132, 121(1), 352, 281, 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and relevant sections of the Motor Vehicle Act.
