Various right-wing organisations, helmed by BJP MLA Yogesh Tilekar, staged a rasta roko at Fud gate on Shivaji road in Pune on Wednesday demanding action against encroachments in front of four dargahs in Gurwar Peth.
“There are encroachment s at dargahs in Gurwar Peth. The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) should immediately remove the encroachments and take possession of the land. If it is not done, the protest will intensify,” said Tilekar.
The protestors sought a written assurance from the PMC stating it would take action against the encroachment. “This protest is not against any dargah but against the encroachment. There is reservation for a public facility at the encroached area but the PMC has not taken any action to take possession of it till date. We want to know why the PMC was ignoring the issue for so long,” said Tilekar.
A PMC official rushed to the protest site and assured to take necessary action, following which the rasta roko was called off.
