Prof Umakant Dash takes charge as Gokhale Institute Vice Chancellor

Professor Umakant Dash took charge as the Vice Chancellor of The Gokhale Institute of Politics and Economics (GIPE) on Tuesday.

He took charge from the outgoing Vice Chancellor Prof Shankar Das in a ceremony held at the institute.

Bringing over three decades of experience in management education and research, Dash previously served as Director and RBI Chair Professor at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA).

His academic journey spans prestigious institutions including IIT Madras, BITS Pilani, and international stints at Tulane University, USA, and Utara University of Malaysia.

A PhD holder in Applied Economics from IIT Kanpur, Prof. Dash has made contributions in the field of health economics, public policy research, and developmental studies.

His work has been published in renowned journals including The Lancet and BMC Public Health, with research projects supported by global organisations like the WHO and the Rockefeller Foundation.

Prof Dash’s policy expertise has been recognised through his involvement with various government committees, including the National Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation.

He currently serves on the governing boards of several institutions, including IIT Indore and National Institute of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (NIRDPR), Hyderabad.
