The Koregaon Park police are on the lookout for a doctor after a watchman he had allegedly beaten up on July 27 over a petty issue died at a hospital on Monday morning.
Police have identified the deceased as Sarjerao Sathe. Cops are now hunting for Dr Abhijit Khanvilkar the managing director of a consultancy firm in research and management of health services,which functions out of Winterberry Purple housing society. Sathe worked as a security guard at the society.
According to the police complaint,the incident took place around 8 am on July 27. Police said another watchman,who was on duty before Sathe came in,was not at the spot.
An ambulance from Khanvilkars firm wanted to leave the premises for the some work and the driver started calling for the guard. Meanwhile,Khanvilkar called the driver asking why the ambulance had not left.
Inspector Rajendra Mullik said,A resident of the housing society saw Khanvilkar thrashing Sathe after which he fell on a cement block and suffered a head injury. In the night,he was found unconscious in Mundhwa.
A police team admitted him to a hospital,from where he was shifted to another. The case was then transferred to us.
On Monday morning,Sathe succumbed to his injuries. Mullik said a case was earlier registered under Indian Penal Code Sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt). Additional sections will be added after investigation,he said.
