Pimpri Chinchwad police seizes 50 illegal firearms in special drive, arrests 111

In a special three-week drive against illegal firearms and sharp weapons, Pimpri Chinchwad Police seized 50 illegal firearms, 79 live rounds, and 116 dangerous sharp weapons. A total of 111 individuals were arrested—45 for possession of firearms and 66 for sharp weapons. Police also took action against individuals displaying firearms and sharp weapons in social media posts and reels during the campaign.

Pimpri Chinchwad police commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey and directed all Crime Branch Units and police stations to undertake concerted efforts to confiscate illegal firearms, live rounds and dangerous sharp weapons. He had also ordered that the special drive be conducted against miscreants displaying firearms and sharp weapons in social media posts and reels.

During this campaign, police registered 40 cases and arrested 45 accused, seizing a total of 50 firearms including pistols and 79 live cartridges. Action was also taken against individuals possessing sharp weapons, leading to 94 separate cases and the arrest of 66 accused. In these operations, police recovered 116 sharp weapons, including 91 sickles, 12 swords, four machetes, and six knives/daggers. Choubey has said that the actions will continue in the coming days.

Notable actions among these cases included one by the Crime Branch Unit 4 which led to arresting of jail-released accused in MCOCA case Pawan Devendra Baneti (24), resident of Rajiv Gandhi Slum, Pimple Gurav, from whose possession two pistols and two live cartridges were seized.

Other key arrests included Ganesh Kamble alias Mad Ganya (23), resident of Niradhar Nagar, Pimpri, Rushikesh alias Shraya Raju Adagale (24), resident behind Padmavati Temple area, Urse, Baba Saifan Shaikh (27), resident of Rajiv Gandhi Nagar, Pimple Gurav, Rahul alias Sonya Prakash Dhage (25), resident of Parkhe Vasti, Susgaon, Pratap alias Balu Hanumant Pawar (32), residing in Ganesh Nagar, Pirangut and Vaibhav Ramakrishna Vite (28), resident of Jagruti Chowk, Talegaon Station area.

The action was conducted under the guidance of Police Commissioner Choubey, Joint Commissioner Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner Sarang Awad, DCPs Vishal Gaikwad, Sandeep Atole, Bapu Bangar and Shivaji Pawar.
