Yet another offence has been registered against alleged conman Omkar Shyamrao Joshi, who is now found to have cheated people by posing as a member of the National Commission for Backward Classes.
Police havaldar Tushar Salunkhe lodged the FIR in this case at Sangvi police station on Friday.
The 45-year-old Joshi was earlier arrested by the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Pimpri Chinchwad for allegedly cheating a businessman of Rs 4.41 crore by falsely claiming to be the director of Department of Heavy Industries of the central government.
Police said that by assuring lucrative returns, the accused Joshi had allegedly lured the businessman to invest in a government tender. An FIR was lodged against him at Bhosari police station.
During investigation, police recovered visiting cards on which Joshi claimed to be a member of National Commission for backward classes for Maharashtra. Images of Ashok Stambh were also illegally printed on these cards, police said.
Police suspect the accused has been cheating people since May this year by claiming to hold government posts and assuring them jobs or earning opportunities.
A fresh FIR was lodged against Joshi under sections 204, 205, 336 (2), 336 (3), 340 (2), 319 (2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections of State Emblem of India (Prohibition and Improper Use) Act, 2005.
