The Chief Minister on Thursday announced that the film city in Kolhapur will be developed with the help of private sector partnership to promote the regional cinema. Present as chief guest at the closing ceremony of PIFF,Chavan also assured that the state government will see that henceforth PIFF will be an official event of the state. While Patel called for focussed efforts to promote the film industry,Patil said the government was thinking of drafting a cultural policy for the state.
As the PIFF awards were declared,Mexican film Lake Tahoe won the Prabhat prize for the best international film. Prabhat best director award went to Sergey Dvortsevoy of Kazakhstan for his film Tulpan,Nadine Labaki won the best actor award. Gabhricha Paus (The Damned Rain) directed by Satish Manvar won Sant Tukaram best Marathi international film award. Paresh Mokashi (best director),Kishor Kadam (best actor) and Sachin Kundalkar (best screenplay) won the Akhil Bharatiya Chitrapat Mahamandals awards. In the students category,Deepti Gogna of FTII won best director award for her short film Narmeen. Marathi films Gho Mala Asa Hava and Jogva won the special jury award
The audience and the dignitaries on dais paid homage to Tapan Sinha,who died on Thursday. Walse- Patil,BJP MP Prakash Jawadekar,film director Subhash Ghai,chairman of PIFF Suresh Kalmadi,director Jabbar Patel,vice-chairman Sabina Sanghvi,actress Vidya Balan,Sonali Kulkarni,director of New York film festival Richard Pena and juries were also present on the dais.
