Unidentified armed men attempted to rob two jewellery shops on NDA Road in two separate incidents on Friday and Saturday. In both cases, the shop owners managed to foil the attempts but sustained injuries while resisting the attackers.
In the first incident, around 8 pm on Friday, three men posing as customers entered Morya Jewellers near Dhawade petrol pump in Uttam Nagar. Moments later, they allegedly pointed a sharp weapon at the shop owner and demanded gold ornaments. The owner hurled a selfie stick at them, triggering a scuffle. The robbers allegedly attacked him and smashed the glass of the cash counter. As the owner resisted and called for help, the men fled on a two-wheeler. The shop owner sustained injuries on his hand, police said.
A police team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Sambhaji Kadam visited the spot. Officers said CCTV footage from the shop and nearby locations has provided crucial clues about the suspects.
The owner lodged an FIR at the Uttam Nagar police station under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) sections 309 (6), 333, 3 (5), 324 (4), along with relevant sections of the Indian Arms Act. Assistant Police Inspector Priyanka Gaikwad is investigating the case.
In the second incident on Saturday evening, a gang of unidentified armed robbers barged into Vijaylakshmi Jewellers on NDA Road in Shivane. They assaulted the shop owner, but he raised an alarm, prompting neighbouring shopkeepers to rush to his aid. The robbers fled on two-wheelers without taking any ornaments. The shop owner suffered facial injuries and later filed an FIR at the Uttam Nagar police station.
Senior Police Inspector Mohan Khandare of Uttam Nagar police station said, “Teams have been formed for searching the accused in both the attempted robbery incidents. It is being investigated whether the same persons were involved in both the crimes. The injured jewellery shop owners are stable.”
