Nine old rusted ‘bomb’ like explosives found near Pimpri railway station

After receiving information, a team of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Pune, reached the spot and checked the explosives. Soon, the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) was informed.

As many as nine ‘bomb’-like old and rusted explosives were found near the railway tracks close to the Pimpri police station on Friday.

After receiving information, a team of the Government Railway Police (GRP), Pune, reached the spot and checked the explosives. Soon, the bomb detection and disposal squad (BDDS) was informed.

BDDS officals confirmed that the explosives were unloaded ordinance (UXO) that were lying at the spot for over the last six months. The BDDS team seized the UXO safely for further action, said police inspector Pramod Khopikar.

The police clarified that the explosives have nothing to do with the ongoing war-like situation between India and Pakistan.

There have been multiple incidents in the past, where similar old and rusted grenades or explosive items were found at different locations in Pune. Police seized and disposed of the explosives through a proper legal procedure.

Police said with the presence of a large number of Army and defence institutions in and around Pune since pre-Independence era, there is always a possibility of discovery of misfired, unexploded ammunition that was lost or mishandled during transit in the past.
