Noted musician Anand Modak, who has composed several melodies for Marathi films and dramas, died here on Friday. The 63-year old artiste suffered a heart attack after which he was admitted to a hospital, where he died.
Known for his creative experiments, Modak, in his latest work, had created the music for Yashwantrao Chavan — Bakhar Eka Vadalachi, a Jabbar Patel-directed film that was recently released and had been based on the life and work of the first chief minister of Maharashtra.
Kalat Nakalat (1989), Chaukat Raja (1991), Ek Hota Vidushak (1992), Lapandav (1993), Aai (1995), Tu Tithe Mi (1998), Nati-goti (2006), Doha (2007), Harishchandrachi Factory (2009), Dambis (2011) and Masala (2011) are some of the noted films with which Modak was associated.
Hailing from Akola, Modak reached Pune to pursue a career in music. He began his music career with acclaimed drama Ghashiram Kotwal.
Modak was noticed for compositions he offered for the Satish Alekar-directed drama Mahanirvan. He has been the recipient of several honours for his more than three-decade long service to the field of music.
His last rites were performed in the presence of a large gathering of artists and fans, along with family members and friends, on Friday evening.
