More Aadhaar machines, some at gas agencies too

The administration is keen on getting Aadhaar registration work completed at the earliest.

With the government set to roll out the Direct Benefit Transfer for LPG from January 1, and only 76 per cent population covered for Aadhaar card until now, the administration is planning to get gas agencies install Aadhaar machines so that people can register at these centres.

The administration is keen on getting Aadhaar registration work completed at the earliest, even though Aadhaar is not mandatory as of now for DBT scheme to be rolled out for LPG consumers.

“The food distribution officers and district supply officers have to give details about coverage. The administration will give out names of the agencies where the Aadhaar machines will be put up,” said the UIDAI coordinator from the district administration.

The government has set a deadline of 50 per cent Aadhaar coverage for DBT for LPG, Pune has at present only 37 per cent linkage. Under the cash transfer compliant scheme, the agencies have to bridge 3.5 lakh customers. After the linkage, LPG consumers will get the cash subsidy amount transferred to their accounts by the LPG dealers.
