This road has a total length of 5.75 kilometres, of which 2.5 kilometres are already completed.

The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has proposed plans to commence the construction of a flyover and the widening of roads worth Rs 650 crore in the Hinjewadi area to avoid traffic snarls.

Laxmi Chowk is among the most congested spots in Hinjewadi, frequently causing severe traffic delays, especially for IT professionals commuting the area. To tackle this bottleneck, MIDC has devised a comprehensive plan beginning with the construction of a 720-metre, four-lane flyover at a cost of Rs 40 crore, which will specifically target the bottleneck at Laxmi Chowk.

According to an MIDC official, this action follows a meeting held at the end of December last year, chaired by Industries Minister Uday Samant. Alongside the flyover, the plan includes the widening of a six-lane road from Shivaji Chowk to Smashan Bhumi Chowk, spanning 900 metres at a cost of nearly Rs 25 crore. Additionally, a new 5-kilometre road will connect Phase One to Phase Three in the IT Park, with an estimated cost of Rs 584.14 crore.
“The land acquisition for these projects will be handled by the Public Works Department (PWD), while MIDC will oversee the execution,” the official added.

In addition to this, the stalled project of the six-lane road connecting Baner to the IT Park will also be completed. This road has a total length of 5.75 kilometres, of which 2.5 kilometres are already completed.

Shankar Salkar, a member of the Hinjewadi Industrial Association (HIA), expressed satisfaction with the decision and elaborated that the road connecting Baner to the IT Park, known as the New Alternate Road, falls under the jurisdiction of PMC and PMRDA in different segments. “An initial stretch of nearly 300 metres will be acquired by PMC, and then some parts by Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA). The work will proceed once the PMRDA secures approval for the Town Planning (TP) scheme,” he said.

As part of its focus on security, MIDC also confirmed that 300 CCTV cameras are planned for installation in the region, out of which 280 are already operational.
