A man claiming to be personal assistant to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde called Dr Sanjeev Thakur, dean of state-run BJ Medical College and Sassoon General Hospital in Pune, asking him to stop canteen services. Dr Thakur told The Indian Express that he has not filed a complaint with the police.

According to a hospital official, his rude tone suggested that it was not a genuine call. The call was made on Monday. When the dean checked with the CM’s office, it proved his suspicion, the official said.

A few days ago, one of the six canteens on the campus was shut after students complained about food quality, he said.

The caller, who identified himself as Aniket Nikam, claimed to be the CM’s PA. After inquiring about the hospital’s initiative of handing out free medicine to patients, he rudely asked the dean to shut down all six canteens on the premises, the official said.

The CM’s office told the dean they had no employee by that name, the official said.
