MCOCA invoked against two chain snatchers

Pune city police have invoked the stringent Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against a two men involved in several chain snatching crimes.

Police have identified the accused persons as Dnyaneshwar alias Mauli Bhikaji Chavan (22) of Mantarwadi in Haveli and Gajanan Dattatraya Borade (30) of Saswad.

A press release issued today stated that the duo was recently arrested for allegedly snatching a gold chain from a woman near Kedari Garden in Wanavdi on June 8.

The victim woman had lodged the first information report (FIR) in this case at the Wanavdi police station under section 392, 34 of the Indian Penal Code.

Police said accused Chavan has so far committed 16 offences. He and Borade teamed up and together committed eight chain snatchings in the jurisdiction of Pune city police.

Police said they were mainly targeting women walking alone. They used different clothes and different motorcycles for chain snatching.
