Reiterating Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’ stance, state Revenue minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule on Tuesday said that the reservation to Maratha community will not be given from the other communities’ share of reservation, and that the state government is committed to give justice to Maratha community through a legal path that would stand in court.
“No one will agree to share the reservation of other communities with the Maratha community. Thus, a solution other than that has to be found for which the state government is working on. The state government is working on a solution which, even challenged in the court, will continue to stand in favour of the Maratha community,” said Bawankule.
Bawankule said BJP’s stand is to ensure reservation to Maratha community and steps for it have been taken in the past as well. “We are not going to share the reservation of OBC (Other Backwards Class) with another category,” he said, adding the state government is committed to growth of the Maratha community without affecting reservation of OBC.
He also informed that the state government is issuing OBC certificates to all those submitting supporting documents for it. “All records that are mentioned in the historical government documents as OBC will be considered to issue certificates to concerned applicants with proof of ancestors’ names in records,” said Bawankule.
“The extent of work done for the Maratha community growth has not been done by anyone other than Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis,” said Bawankule.
The Bombay high court has directed maratha morcha activists to vacate public places in Mumbai, said Bawankule, “This is due to inconvenience caused to citizens of Mumbai due to activists of Maratha morcha and their vehicles spread across the city.”
