AN EXHIBITION of a wide variety of exotic birds, featuring vibrant-coloured birds from across the world, has garnered the attention of children and adults alike. Titled the ‘World of Wings’, the exhibition was held at the Ganesh Kala Krida Mandir, Swargate, and started on Wednesday.
The exhibition will be open for public every day, till October 29th, between 10 am and 9 pm.
It has at least 83 varieties of birds, including those originating from South America, Africa, Australia and South-East Asia, on display. Organisers, Aaryans World School, said more birds were on their way and will soon be displayed.
“My favourite was the Blue-Gold Macaw!” chimed Atharva Patil. “The Red-sided Eclectus, female, will kill the male, if she doesn’t like him, and he dies happily,” said Milind Ladge, the managing director of Aaryans World School.
“The African Grey Parrot, also called the ‘Barking Parrot’, makes an odd, unearthly sound if it feels threatened. A wide variety of Pheasants and Hornbills are also among prime attractions. However, the Macaws of South America — Blue-Gold, Crimson, Moluccan — are multi-coloured showstoppers, crawling the length of their cages actively,” he added.
In one section, spectators are allowed to hold a hand-tamed bird on their hand. “I really enjoyed looking at the birds… but I feel bad they are caged. The weather here could affect their health,” said Malvika Dhabade, a Pune-based biology lecturer.
Students of the Aaryans School guided the spectators through the exhibition in absence of experts who, some of the visitors said, would have added to the experience.
