The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Monday temporarily suspended the licence of Pune’s popular eatery Cafe Goodluck at Deccan Gymkhana due to unhygienic conditions at the restaurant. The action comes after a video purportedly showing glass pieces in a bun at the food joint went viral on social media.

Suresh Annapure, FDA Joint Commissioner, Pune, told The Indian Express that the cafe has been directed to stop operations until it complies with food safety regulations. Samples were taken from the cafe, and upon inspection, several issues were identified, mainly related to unhygienic conditions, FDA officials said.

Cafe Goodluck is an iconic restaurant and one of the oldest in Pune, well known for a variety of food items like bun maska and chai, egg dishes, biryanis and kheemas. Recently, a couple who visited the restaurant allegedly found glass pieces in a bun maska, took a video and shared it on social media. FDA officials said that they took cognisance of the video.

Meanwhile, the FDA has also taken note of another incident where a woman found a cockroach in her soup at a restaurant, Bhiwandi Darbar, in Pune’s Camp. A police case was filed in the matter. According to Annapure, they received a report on this issue and are planning another inspection soon.

“Our inspections are underway, and we are checking whether restaurants are complying with food safety regulations,” he added.
