The Deputy Director of Health, Pune circle, had taken cognizance of a liver transplant surgery performed on a man and his wife at Sahyadri Hospitals and issued a notice to the hospital on Sunday.
Kamini Kaomkar (42), a resident of Hadapsar, had donated a part of her liver to her husband Bapu Balkrishna Koamkar (49) on August 15. However, Bapu Koamkar passed away on August 17 after the liver transplant operation. Kamini, who had initially recovered well after donating part of her liver, had developed hypotensive shock and multiorgan dysfunction which could not be controlled even with advanced treatment, according to authorities at Sahyadri Hospitals.
Authorities at Sahyadri hospital had told The Indian Express that on an average, three to four liver transplants are performed every month and this was a very unfortunate incident. They reiterated that surgeries were carried out strictly as per medical protocols.
