The Maharashtra Federation of College and University Teachers Organisation (MFUCTO) has decided to continue its agitation despite the Human Resource Development (HRD) ministry announcing the release of its share of Rs 1,500 crore soon to clear teachers dues.
HRD Minister M Pallam Raju, during a meeting held with Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar in New Delhi on Monday, assured that the Centre will do the needful to resolve the issue.
Speaking to Newsline,MFUCTO president Shivaji Patil said that he has not received anything in writing from the state government about the release of dues.
He said MFUCTO will not compromise on its demand seeking exemption of teachers who joined between 1991 and 2000 from NET and SET.
Our agitation is completing around two months now. It is the state government and not the teachers who should be held responsible for the agitation. The government has failed to keep its promise, he said.
More than 45,000 teachers from eight universities in the state, including the University of Pune (UoP),have been boycotting exam-related work responding to a call by MFUCTO since February 4.
Though UoP,among other few universities, have started the examination process,it requires teachers agitation to end so that the work of assessing answer-sheets can be carried out smoothly.
