THE DATTAWADI police station in Pune, located near the historic Parvati Hill, will now be called Parvati police station. An order to this effect was issued by the state Home department on Thursday.

The Dattawadi police station was established on December 15, 2007, by bifurcating the jurisdiction of Swargate police station.

The existing Dattawadi police chowki came under the jurisdiction of Dattawadi police station. Now, as both the police chowki and police station have same name, it created confusion among local residents.

Hence the local residents requested the police authorities to change the name of Dattawadi police station to Parvati police station. A proposal in this regard was submitted to the government by the city police.

The home department agreed to the proposal and an order in this regard was issued on Thursday.
